Fastlane Launches Turbo Kit for 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 - Car and Driver

The latest in what’s sure to be a long line of performance add-ons for the Ford Mustang’s new 5.0-liter V-8 engine comes from Texas-based Fastlane Inc. The company’s turbocharger kit for the Mustang GT bumps the car’s output to over 530 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. The stock car is rated at 412 hp and 390 lb-ft at the crankshaft.

The kit consists of a BorgWarner turbo making seven psi of boost; a front-mounted, air-to-air intercooler; a replacement exhaust manifold; a FastLane fuel pump and bigger fuel injectors; and an SCT Performance programming tool to tweak the engine computer. The package comes with a one-year/12,000-mile warranty if installed by Fastlane, and it costs $7995.

While the performance figures are nothing to sniff at, we wonder how well the rest of the vehicle will fare when trying to put all of that extra power down. It’s certainly a different approach than we’re used to from Stang tuners—Ford Racing and Roush have already chosen to supercharge the new 5.0 V-8. Still, the Fastlane kit is a relatively affordable way to extract lots more power from the 2011 Mustang GT.
